Founded in 1983 by the tireless work from members of 30 Orange County Exchange Clubs, the Child Abuse Prevention Center operates fourteen different programs. These programs include In-Home Parenting Education Programs, In-Home Mental Health Programs and educational panels such as Teen Voices/Teen Choices. In its 28 year history, the Child Abuse Prevention Center has served 215,000 children and families through their different programs targeted to meet community needs.

    In 2010 alone:

    • 15,000 children, over 3,000 parents and over 2,500 families received assistance and education from fourteen different programs
    • Volunteers contributed more than 13,500 volunteer hours valued in excess of $253,000
    • Received donate in-kind goods valued at $612,000.

The Orange County Child Abuse Registry receives more than 100 calls a day reporting cases of child abuse and maltreatment. In 2010, over 18,000 child abuse reports were filed in which 38,000 children were reported to have suffered physical, emotional, and/or sexual abuse. The most prevalent type of abuse reported is neglect at 41%, followed by physical abuse at 14% and sexual abuse at 11%. More than one-third of the children reported to the Child Abuse Registry in 2010 were under the age of 5.

The devastating effects of child abuse are life-long and have generational consequences. The Child Abuse Prevention Center believes that by providing our clients with the necessary tools to be successful parents, we will continue to break the generational cycle of child abuse.
