Mariposa Women and Family Center (Mariposa) has provided community-based, comprehensive mental health and substance abuse outpatient care services for economically disadvantaged women and their families living in Orange County since it opened its doors in 1977. In fact, over 93% of the people Mariposa serves have low to extremely low incomes. Whether the issues are domestic violence, childhood abuse, depression, anxiety, loss of a loved one, substance abuse, anger management, parenting difficulties, low self-esteem, communication problems, or other life challenges, for nearly 35 years Mariposa’s counselors have been there to help women and their families in Orange County. Literally thousands of women consider Mariposa as the one place where they received the care and services they needed to reclaim their lives and their family’s health and stability from debilitating mental health challenges, substance abuse or trauma.
The agency’s mission is: Mariposa Women and Family Center empowers women and families to achieve positive changes in their lives. Mariposa's continuum of services have grown considerably in its years of serving women and their families in Orange County. Today services are offered under three distinct, but interrelated, areas:
Counselors are trained to offer specialized mental health services focusing on bereavement; divorce support; domestic violence and sexual assault recovery; and post-traumatic stress syndrome, to mention a few. Services are offered in multiple languages as needed, including Spanish, Vietnamese and Farsi. To best support the women and families using our services, Mariposa offers on-site child care for its clients.
Early intervention programs are woven throughout Mariposa’s service areas in an effort to augment and enhance the clinical programs offered. These activities support women and their families’ mental health needs in preventative ways, offering emotional support, reducing isolation, and enhancing skills. Preventative resources offered through CCP include occupational therapy for employment support, life-skills workshops that enhance critical skills for making healthy choices, and group interventions and support groups, and parent education forums.
